REACHING
OUT At Riverside we envision so many people in St. Louis coming alive to the love of God that His presence is felt in every aspect of our society. We envision training and investing spiritually in people of every stripe: doctors, lawyers, business people, artists, students, street cleaners and construction workers, to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to bear on, and within, their spheres of influence. Our responsibility is to “remember the poor,” meaning both the physical and spiritual poor. Our witness to St. Louis will be incomplete if we do not proactively seek to embody the grace and love of God among the weak, the guilt ridden, the helplessly selfish, the poor, the immoral, and other people groups typically marginalized by religious subcultures. We are called to bring the merciful presence of Christ to people whether or not they recognize Him as Lord.
While we are committed to bring the grace of God to bear on every generation and in the lives of people from every station in life, we also recognize the unique challenges of transition from campus life into life in the "real world." For this reason, we have taken steps to provide an atmosphere in which college students from nearby universities, and also recent college graduates, can assimilate into the life of the church with ease and with plenty of opportunities for friendship and involvement. It is our desire to ensure that this often under-utilized portion of the body of Christ is invited into the center of the life of our church family. In this spirit, we offer our enthusiastic support to campus para-church ministries such as Campus Crusade for Christ, Reformed University Fellowship, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and other similar groups devoted to campus communities. Additionally, we offer great opportunities for young adults who are recently out of college to "connect" with the body of Christ. For more info on our heart for college and post-college men and women, email our church office.
How do you keep an alive local church from becoming ingrown? Our belief is that the best way to do this is through the planting of more like-minded churches. Jesus calls His children to be "fishers of men" and not merely "keepers of the aquarium!" With this vision, we are deeply committed to a "church planting" strategy - in which new, like-minded and grace-centered churches are being started all the time in the greater St. Louis area. Our commitment is to partner with other like-minded churches in St. Louis (such as our sister church, Greentree Community Church) to see this dream become reality. |
